EEV: An Innovative Solution Inspired by the Youth of Norway
EEV is not a Norwegian import, but the idea to utilize a vehicle like EEV here in the United States is inspired by Norwegian practices. The concept presents a brilliant solution to a growing problem, especially in Bend.
Early in the summer of 2025, my 15-year-old stepdaughter began showing us pictures of a ‘moped bil’—a moped car. I was amazed! While I was familiar with small electric cars in Norway, such as the Fiat, this vehicle was something different: smaller in size, with two seats but equipped with all the features of a full-sized car. Its maximum speed is approximately 40 mph, which suits Norway’s lower speed limits and narrower roads. The moped bil quickly became popular, bridging the gap for youth aged 16-18 who have a driving permit but not a full driver’s license. When my stepdaughter turned sixteen, and she was gifted with her moped bil, our responsibility for transporting her dropped by 90% overnight. I realized what an incredible solution the moped bil had become. From a business perspective, the value was clear—the price reflected the significant time saved for parents. It was a brilliant innovation!
Upon returning to the U.S., I searched for a vehicle like the moped bil. However, I could only find ‘luxury’ golf carts that resembled oversized versions of what you might buy for a child at Toys R Us. This was not what I was looking for.
I finally discovered EEV, though it was marketed solely as a mobility vehicle. EEV can offer so much more!
EEV Solving Local Challenges
EEV can be part of the solution to our parking shortage problem, in a town that has small streets and limited growth areas to accommodate more vehicles. Our venues and events attract thousands, many of whom drive larger-than-average vehicles and RVs. Customers, clients, and patrons can park in designated areas and then use EEV to access the venue 4 at a time, helping to keep traffic contained where it belongs.
EEV is also a wonderful solution for individuals requiring mobility assistance, those sensitive to the weather, and/or those affected by air quality. With a fully enclosed cabin, heating and air conditioning, EEV is an excellent option for anyone seeking comfortable transport and protection, so they can enjoy Bend to its fullest!
EEV is one of a kind, and a very cool vehicle for younger people, demonstrating that there are ever emerging options for electric transportation, and Bend is on the front lines of evaluating new technology that supports our community. While electric scooters and bikes are popular, they are not suitable for everyone and can become problematic when left around the community for pickup.
